Knightshayes Court, designed by William Burges, in 1869. Built for Sir John Heathcote-Amory, who made his money from lace. The interiors - with painted ceilings and wall stenciling - are a medieval feel with Victorian overtones that added up to a Victorian country house. The National Trust is so good at re-creating the original atmosphere of such houses.
The garden is well known in its own right. It offers intricate topiary, a water lily pool, and a collection of rare shrubs. There are also woodland walks through the grounds.
